Last week we hosted the 17th International Conference on Mobile and Ubiquitous Multimedia #MUM2017, for me it was the first time being a local organizer. Together with Yomna Abdelrahman, we both have been responsible for the whole local organization – rooms, food, drinks, conference dinner and all other local arrangements and also the budget planning. In total, we had 123 attendees from all over the place. Unsurprisingly the largest attendee group was from Germany.
As the conference is not so big, we also decided to take care of the student volunteers. Thus, during the conference, we had 12 amazing SVs (see picture above) to arrange and provide everything the attendees needed. And once more I had the chance to use chicv.org to deal with all tasks, form both my day caption experience at CHI and NordiCHI I was used to the system. But I have to say this so buggy, basically you need to learn the bugs to understand what the system is doing. But its free and lightweight so I will always recommend to use it. While we had 74 individual tasks, in total, we assigned 207 hours of work to our 12 SVs.
I experienced the conference was mainly from backstage. However, my conference talk highlight was for sure the closing keynote by Dirk van den Boom. Have a look at the last image to get an impression why I enjoyed the talk. Another highlight was the excellent BBQ form the Metzgerei Egeler where I worked during my studies during the demo and art exhibition on Monday evening.
